Wizards Fire Flip!

The Washington Wizards have fired coach Flip Saunders. The Wizards currently have the worst record in the NBA with two wins.

Caps Take On The Pens

A few weeks back, the Caps hosted the Pens in the Verizon Center and walked away with a 2 point shutout. It was by the slimmest of margins, a 1-0 win. In the last three games, the Caps have been shutout twice. Once at home 3-0 and once on the road 3-0. Going into Sundays matchup, the Caps look to continue to correct their troubles on the road. On Wednesday night, the Caps blanked the Habs in Montreal providing a lot of hope for playing on the road. However, Friday night, they were back into bad habits. The penalty kill hurt them and they didn’t do anything on the powerplay. Sunday’s game should be a close one, considering the Caps always step up to the challenge of playing the Pens due to the rivalry.

It has not yet been announced who will be in the crease for the Caps on Sunday, but one has to assume it will be Neuvirth. He played great on Wednesday night, and he has great numbers against the Pens in his entire career of two seasons.

Maybe an anger filled, rivalry game will inspire the Caps to play good tomorrow and build off of that for road games the rest of this year. We shall see. Puck drop is set for 12:30 AM, so we should expect the game to start at 12:40 AM or so.

Until then.

Caps Blank the Habs

The Caps shut down the Habs on Wednesday night and silenced the fans at Bell Centre by shutting out the home team by the score of 3-0. After losing 3-0 at home on Tuesday night, the Caps quickly rebounded and won 3-0 last night. The Caps killed an astounding 7 seven penalties, of which included a questionable triple minor. The Caps scored the only power play goal of the night when Ovechkin sent Carey Price a nice little gift. The Caps were 1/4 on the powerplay for the night.
Neuvirth made his first start in 10 games. He had only played one period in those 10 games. Some wondered if he would be rusty, but Neuvy quickly sent the doubters packing by earning a shut out. He is now 6-7-2 on the season with a 3.02 GAA and a 89.4% save percentage.
Note: Alex Semin picked up his 14th point in 14 games. He has heated up. Mathieu Perreault scored his first goal since the end of October. Neuvirth earned his second shut out of the season and the sixth of his career. Matt Hendricks beat up Bourque for his hit on Backstrom a few weeks back.

Caps Take On The Habs

Things are about to get underway at Bell Centre in Montreal. The Caps are likely to take shots at Bourque. Neuvirth is in the crease tonight.

Isles Play a Perfect Road Game

The Islanders tallied once in the first and once in the second and once in the third. The Caps failed to tally at all. This game was a perfect example of what Caps fans have been seeing all season: the failure of the Caps to get enough shots. Vokoun made his 10th straight start. The Caps were 4/6 on the penalty kill, and 0/3 on the power play. This loss marks the first time the Caps have lost at home since the Flyers game where they lost 5-2 and in 2012. Vokoun stopped 25 of 28 shots for an 89.3% save percentage. The Caps walked away with only 17 shots; something the Caps have become used to.

The Caps get a chance to redeem themselves tomorrow though. They play the Habs in Montreal at 7:30 PM EST. Oh, and Bourque (you know, the guy who damaged Nick Backstrom) will be present, so maybe that will encourage the Caps just a little bit. We should expect Neuvirth to be in the crease, but who knows.

NHL 11 – Cool Cover

Who else agrees EA should have used something like this on last years or this years NHL game? Looks pretty sick, plus it fuels the Caps/Pens rivalry.

Caps Face Isles in First Game of Back-to-Back

The Caps have the daunting task of hosting the New York Islanders tonight at the Verizon Center. The Caps have 7 straight home victories going into this game. Vokoun will be occupying the crease tonight. One has to think Neuvy will start tomorrow, but I suppose it will be based off tonight.
